Short sleeve ccw options, check out Woolrich Elite

When summer rolls around it’s usually time to put the full size auto away and switch over to your compacts and smaller frame guns.  The Hawaiian shirt thing doesn’t work for skinny guys and I’m sure we’ve all seen the movies where the undercover narcotics officers are wearing them.  The bad guys know you have a gun tucked in there and they probable won’t be surprised to see the muscular and fit guy with the shirt and sunglasses is a narcotics officer. After that, if you don’t wear an untucked t-shirt you’re probable going to end up having to pocket carry.

Everyone of the tactical clothing companies has it’s pros and cons and some of the fit and designs are really just personal tastes.   The one company we’ve been very impressed with when it comes to CCW shirts are the Woolrich Elite CCW Shirts especially the short sleeve ones for this time of year.   I personally have been very happy with my ability to pocket carry a j-frame, tuck a shirt in and still be able to pack a Streamlight tactical flashlight and my gerber pocket knife all in my ccw shirt.   I’ve seen a few of the Blackhawk and 5.11 attempts at making tactical shirts but they just didn’t work for me.

These shirts look great

The Woolrich Elite concealed carry shirts are really nice and we’re surprised to see how many shirts they have made.   I guess it was an easy switch to change their product line over from the Woolrich Elite main line to the Woolrich Elite Series tactical line.   The 44916 seems to be the best CCW shirt that came out last year although they did discontinue the 44915 and the 44913 shirts.  Those shirts are now on sale at a discount but they are still in stock. The velcro side flaps are somewhat boring but the shirts are a great bargain and better looking than what I see from Blackhawk and 5.11 tactical.

The newest ccw shirts from Woolrich are the best yet.   These have magnetic false buttons that you might want to use a shoulder holster or something like a deep cover concealment shirt.   The Woolrich Elite CCW shirts we have are very different in pattern and look to the 2011 ccw shirts and they are hands down the best ones.  I always recommend anyone that is using a shirt for ccw should avoid throwing them in dryers and let them hang dry.  We have not gotten any complaints about shrinkage on these shirts but it will slow down the inevitable shrinkage that occurs with all clothing.

What people want for concealment

Is a vest jacket or shirt that can cover a gun and not make  you look like you’re working under cover.   I’ve been to several gun shops in the area that attempted to stock CCW shirts from various “tactical clothing” companies but the sizing was off or the shirt patters just flat out sucked.   I won’t name names because we let the customer decide on what they want, but when it comes to Concealed Carry, Woolrich Elite CCW shirts are the only ones that cut it for me.   I like the idea of being able to pocket carry and keep my knife, flashlight and spare magazine in my shirt pockets and still have my hand pockets free for a gun or car keys.

We’ve been through so much turmoil over the years that we’ve pretty much found out what the trends were in tactical clothing, but it really is shocking about how many companies don’t make decent CCW shirts.   Woolrich Elite CCW shirts look like they basically took shirts from their main clothing line, make the pockets more CCW friendly and they were done.  Well, what’s wrong with that?  Absolutely nothing.   I don’t know how many times people have walked in here and didn’t know Woolrich had a tactical line, but the sales on the CCW shirts puts them in #1.

Tactical shirt comparison between Woolrich and Eotac

First I’d like to say that we have been dealing with clothing made from both companies for a long time and both are quality tactical clothing lines, especially if we compare them to many of their competitors.   We all know who the big tactical clothing companies are and judging by the number number of competitors, people are looking for something else.   I have been wearing a lot of 5.11 tactical, Eotac, Woolrich Elite and Blackhawk pants for years and I notice there are big sizing and fit differences.  I’ll leave quality control to another argument, we’ll just talk about fit for  now.

The Woolrich Elite Series Tactical clothing shirt in Style 44901 and the Eotac style 408 tactical shirts are virtually identical, but there is a big difference in the fit.  We get asked all the time if the shirts are the same, but they aren’t.   The Eotac shirts all seem to fit tighter in the shoulders and aren’t as over sized as the Woolrich Elite.  If I do a comparison of just how they fit in the shoulders, the 44901 shirt hangs over.   Woolrich Elite shirts are all a little roomier too.   I have to say that these shirts are more for military or LEO and not a very good CCW shirt because they look tactical.  You can carry a lot of stuff in them, but shirts with lots of pockets aren’t dressed down.   If you want something that fits you better and can be tucked in, the Eotac shirts seem to be better, if you want a looser larger fit, Woolrich Elite shirts will fit the bill.

Positive feedback on the Eotac Mechanic Shirt

If you go through this site and read all of the reviews we have written, there is an obvious bias we have towards the clothing that we sell.   If we had a 25,000 square foot showroom we would consider carrying more brands because we are well aware of the fact that there are some really good products being made, but we’ve narrowed it down to what we like to deal with.   We get the obvious product exchanges from customers because of fit or sizing issues, but we almost never get a return because the product was unwareable.   I have had bad experiences with one item from one company and had to retire the shorts to the good will store because having a pair of shorts ride up on you means you are one step away from lewd conduct if it was in a public place.

The above paragraph may sound funny, but it was true.   I got tired of having to stand up and adjust myself because my undies were showing.   I have never had a problem like that with any of the Woolrich Elite or Eotac shorts.   I prefer the ID pockets on the Eotac shorts by far because of all of the toll booths travelling a I do, it sure makes it nice to bea able to reach and pull your wallet out without having to take my seat belt off.   The Eotac 409 Mechanic shirt is bothe concealed carry friendly and a good tactical shirts and is really marketable towards the undercover and investigations units.   I don’t think carrying a firearm while working as a mechanic is very comfortable or practical, but we recently got a very good response from one of customers on the fit and comfort of this shirt.

Competition shooter polo options

tactical shirtsElite Operator Tactical came out with a new tactical shirt a few months ago and although we like to test products out for a few months before we become too critical  about them,  we defanitely got a winner here.   The Eotac style 410 Shooting Sports Polo is made of a 100% polyester material and is excellent for breath-a-bility.   It’s been getting  up in the 90F temps here in Virginia and it’s time to clear out the Spring weather clothing and get into summer gear.   The Style 405 feel slightly lighter weight than some of the Woolrich Elite Series Polos I have worn in the past.   We all have different styles and needs when it comes to what we want to wear, but I’d have to admit that the Polos I wore in the past were extremely hot and I could absolutely not wear them in 85F temps comfortable.

The Competition shooter polo is whole other issue.   We’ve been up to the IDPA State Championships on several occassions and guys there always want to look good for their team and not sweat unneccessarily.   Another thing you will noticed is the shirt is designed for an operator that is moving.   On many of the tactical shirts, you will constantly have to adjust the shoulders or sleeves.   I won’t say that everyone will feel comfortable in replacing their usual polos for these because we know from the years we’ve been in business that everyones body is different and not all pants and shirts are going to fit, but from the customer feedback we’ve been getting we’ve not gotten a single complaint about the fit on these.   You’re either a competition shooter or you aren’t,  but these will look good in an office or professional environment.

Tactical Pants Sale

Woolrich Elite PantsWoolrich Elite Pants have been on the market for several years and to this day are still considered a well designed and durable tactical pant.   The Style 4429 were one of the best sellers for Woolrich Elite.    The 4904 Pants seemed to have a unique style and design for some operators and are virtually identical to the 4429 pants except for one thing, the ankle pocket.   This ankle pocket design was intended for people that are in a vehicle and looking to store accessories or small gear in an area that can be reached while sitting down.

The Style 4904 tactical pants has twelve strategically placed multi-use pockets, including two hidden back pockets, four cargo pockets and two utility pockets, they are built to take a beating with critical seams double-needle stitched and bar-tacked at stress points.   They have the same elastic waistband that other Woolrich Elite pants have. The reinforced belt loops will accommodate belts up to 2 inches wide and will accept the more popular tactical belts like The Wilderness instructor belts.
