We rarely get tactical clothing in our store that can be used in more than a few seasons because the notion of wearing an article of clothing in the Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer isn’t going to be that common. Other than socks and underwear, what don’t you change up? Sure you can wear a t-shirt through most of the winter but you’d probable freeze to death if your car broke down and you had to go outside. Their are some really nice Parka type items like the Woolrich Elite Parka but now that that has been discontinued, we’ve moved on to stock much of the Tru-Spec tactical apparel. Their softshell promo with the discounts and sales have helped customers discover something new and useable.
We’ve noticed that a lot of our Law Enforcement like loose fitting clothing and others don’t mind tight fitting clothing and this usually applies to people that are in shape vs out of shape. The Tru-Spec Softshell jackets are not loose fitting, they are specifically designed to be type around your body but the multiple zipper pockets give you access to gear around your belt. These work very well in 4 Season climates where you might get lots of rain on a cold but not freezing weather, or in Spring Weather where getting wet means getting sick. These jackets would be considered rain gear even though they do have a very athletic and tactical look to them.
When a CCW carrier is carrying a firearm in the winter, we can understand why they may want a firearm in a pocket outside of their body, but I recommend putting some thought into how you wear your clothing and how a firearm can be reached in when wearing heavy clothing. Jackets that hold firearms will have to come off if you’re in a house or building that gets hot, so then what do you do with your gun? The Eotac Style 102 CCW Vest is cut very long and is great for concealing in warm weather, but not a firearm retention vest.
Woolrich Elite products are some of the most durable tactical apparel pants out there. Their tactical pants are long lasting and don’t shrink like some of the 5.11 stuff that so many people have complained about. 5.11 products are interesting, but the tactical pants they have been making are apparently taking a major downturn in the quality control arena. Woolrich has been in the clothing business for over 100 years and one thing you have to acknowledge is they know how to make clothing.
The Style 702 womens operator grade lightweight pants will be made of the same 100% cotton ripstop material that the men’s pants are made of, the stitching and durability are the same, but the buck stops there, or should we say doe? The pocket designs are unique to the womens pants and nothing like anything Eotac has out. The front pockets will easily accomodate pocket holsters, the two additional wallet type pockets can hold ID or even something as large as a pistol magazine. The pant legs are slightly tapered for a better look while still allowing access to an ankle holster or being worn with boots. These pants will be available in late Winter and will come in Black, Khaki, Navy blue and OD Green.
Eotac pants have been on the market for almost a year now. One of the most popular tactical pants is the Style 201 Operator pants. These pants are hands down one of the most practical tactical pants you can find on the market. You may even find that these pants are so well designed and comfortable you almost won’t need to wear a tactical vest since the pocket designs will allow you to hold up to six 30rd AR/M16 magazines in the pockets. These pants are made of 100% cotton rip stop and have a gusseted grotch for extra strength. It may be funny to read about someone talking about how the crotch on a pair of tactical pants are re-enforced, but if you’re in hot climates, you’ll need lightweight clothing and durability is always an issue for the lightweight stuff.
I’ve seen a few military style jackets at Army Navy type stores, but most wearers are using them just for the look, but not because they really use it for any practical purpose. There are some military style jackets that have good outdoor applications, but recently the very innovative and emerging tactical apparel company called Eotac, has developed something new. The Eotac 502 Field Jackets is far superior to the Woolrich Elite Algerian jacket that has been on the market for a few years. Both jackets are based on the Algerian style military jacket issued in the 1950’s.
