Kimber Pepper Blaster our number 1 selling less lethal device

I think we can honestly say as a retailer of tactical gear and firearm accessories that when we are asked about the various pepper sprays that we carry, that we’ve gotten 100% positive feedback about the new Kimber Pepper Blaster II.  I guess Kimber might have gotten sued over the Kimber Guardian Angel name or something because they changed it for some reason.  The Pepper Blaster II has been out for over a  year and this redesigned version is a big improvement.  The original version which was called the Kimber Guardian Angel had more of a TV remote control feel to it.   The design was not as securely held in your hand especially if you have smaller fingers.

If you want to avoid dealing with law enforcement for brandishing firearms carrying a less lethal device as a backup or secondary might be a good idea.  Some of these flash mob incidents wouldn’t look so good on the news if you started a shootout with unarmed individuals especially minors but the kimber pepper blaster II is a good 2 shot weapon that can be used on a bad guy to deter them from any bad behavior.  The best selling point about these besides the firearm looking grip and design is that these last for about 4yrs.   Knowing your $40 purchase won’t go to waste or loose energy in a year is a good thing.

Are there better things than bottle pepper sprays?

We’ve seen all types of people come in our shop at various levels of knowledge about firearms or defensive devices.  We’ve had women that did not want to carry firearms but they wanted to buy pepper sprays or mace.  Guys come in and buy it for their wives or they come in and ask questions about concealed carry products.   People that have been robbed or had bad experiences in life get into this business looking for ways of carrying defensive products without buy a pair of 5.11 tactical pants and having a knife and Blackhawk Holster on them.  They just want to know how you actually do it.

Bottle pepper sprays are convenient but not very practical to carry, everyone knows by now that if you grab a cylindrical device you’re going to have trouble knowing which direction it is pointing.    Our line of ASP Pepper sprays are very reasonable priced, but there are things out there like the Kimber Pepper Blaster II, which use to be called the Kimber Guardian Angel, and there is a Ruger has a new pepper spray that has a better grip control than bottle pepper sprays but after watching some of the videos, all those strobes and sirens are more bells and whistles than what I think is practical, but if it gives you comfort than spending $20-$40 on it is worth the security.

Avoid the liability of using a firearm in self defense

Make sure you carry a less leathal weapon and there’s a very good chance you can avoid the legal ramifications of using a firearm.  I’m in no way saying that you shouldn’t carry a gun to protect yourself, but for even more insurance carrying different levels of self defense is a very good idea.  Just look at what moden law enforcement officers carry.  Cops don’t like pulling guns on drugged up teenagers nor do they want to have to pull weapons on groups of people that are unarmed.  This always looks bad on TV even thought the good citizen feels that bodily harm is just around the corner.

I have had my fair share of bad experiences with criminals and I have to tell you that carrying pepper spray is a very good thing.  If a 13yr kid gets worked up and starts threatening you, you don’t want to be the gun on TV that shot a kid 20yrs younger than you and is half your body mass.  We carry much of the Sabre Defense Pepper Sprays and these are also the same products that we sell to law Enforcement Officials.   Reactions to pepper sprays can be different depending on the individual you are dealing with and not all pepper sprays are anywhere near the same.  We have had several requests for FOX sprays and are looking to carry that line as well.

Less Lethal Pepper Spray options may save you more money than you realize

I know that most people don’t need to carry two firearms unless they really have a dangerous lifestyle, but there is a time and place for everything.  For Combat soldiers, carrying a sidearm is important because in close up fighting weapons can jam or go down and having a sidearm gives you time to get your primary weapon back up and running.   For those in Law Enforcement, you have your training, batons, mace and tasers to use before your firearm but many CCW holders think carrying a firearm means not needing pepper spray.

It doesn’t always have to be a gun nor should it have to be.   If you consider using something from the Sabre Defense Pepper Sprays or the Kimber Pepper Blaster II your chances of being a lawsuit are far less of a reality than if you pull a firearm.   People forget that dealing with minors with a sidearm and dealing with dogs or other animals and using a less lethal weapon is going to save you lawyers fees in the end.   Many discussions about what type of firearm is best to deal with a bear in the wild, but any Game Commission employee will tell you pepper spray and mace do the job.

Backup options, less lethal methods

In Philadelphia there have been numerous instances of minors using weapons in crimes, but by Law these individuals are Children and are not considered to be adults.   With the level of violence that is occuring in some areas of the Country, carrying a firearm is very important but just because you have a gun doesn’t mean that the trigger always needs to be pulled when dealing with a threat.  There are deeply misguided individuals that pickup a gun and know nothing about morality or have any idea of what the consequences of their actions are.

As an adult, I am aware that the youth can display bad judgement especially when there is group think.   ASP pepper sprays are a good option even if you are packing a firearm because having good situational awareness and knowing that you can stay ahead of a threat and possible completely diffuse a problem before things get out of  hand with pepper spray or mace may save you the problem of dealing with lawyers and a not so friendly news media.  The Kimber Pepper Blaster II is probable the best thing to carry because it is shaped like a gun and lasts 3x’s longer than most bottle pepper sprays.

Lethal backup options

In my humble opinion, there are different levels of training for self defense, but mulitiple lethal and less lethal options.   With an ever advancing less lethal defensive market,  I would have to say that I recommend that the majorty consider those options.   One of the issues I am coming across more and more today are first time CCW holders.   I am not one to push people towards carrying a firearm for defensive because I am very much aware that many of those that are considering carrying them, are not mentally strong enough to physically put up a fight and may be in the high risk of having their CCW used against them.

With an increasing unemployment and small business owners becoming the targets of home invasions and robbery, there are always backup plans.  Less lethal technology is getting so good that I think that in another decade or so, carrying lethal weapons might really not be the primary weapon.   Pepper sprays and tasers are being used by law enforcement with few repurcussions.  I highly recommend those that are considering carrying 2 firearms, one as a primary and the other as a backup, the Kimber guardian, and ASP Pepper sprays are Sabre defense have less lethal weapons for consideration.

Fear of firearms

Kimber Guardian AngelI recently spoke to a friend who manages a gun shop.   We had a discussion about taking new shooters to the range and trying to break people in to not having a fear of having a firearm in their home.   I know of several family members who normally vote Democrat in National elections that all said that they thought about the fact that they did not have access to firearms if something like that ever ocurred in their hometown.    The idea of having extra food in the house before a snow storm isn’t paranoid, the idea of having smoke detectors in the home incase of fire is being paranoid, is having the ability to put out a fire in your house crazy when you can just let the fire company do it?   What about having some level of defense in  your home if some drunk shows up at your door at 2am or your husbands employee that was just fired wants to make an unexpected visit?

I never pressure people into owning firearms.   I always let that decision fall on the person buying a gun.   My job is to show them that having a firearm in their hands should be something that gives them confidence.   I’ve seen my share of CCW holders that I would not want to stand next to on a firing line due to poor firearm safety skills, so someone is going to have to put some time in to train with me before I tell them I think they are ready to carry one.   One thing I have heard several times recently is that somebody has a wife that says ” I will never have a gun in my home”.   I understand that, that is a mindset that probable can’t be negotiated with, but one thing I am not sympathetic to is any person with a family that does not have some defensive measures in place.   Guns are a lethal weapon that in untrained hands can be a hazard, and there are several other things that any Father or Mother should know are around to be used as weapons.    Kimber Guardian Angel, Tazers, Baseball bats, and last but not least, CO2 fire extinguishers can also be very effective.   If a women won’t consider having items like that around for self defense, I’m all for an annulment.

Kimber Guardian Angel sticker shock?

Kimber Guardian AngelIf you are looking to carry mace or pepper spray, I would absolutely have to urge you to do some research on the Kimber Guardian Angels also known as the Life Act.    At first you might get sticker shock, and I think you may want to consider buying 2 of them and test firing 1 of them before you really get comfortable carrying one.   I’ve earned my merit badges in seeing evil in the world I know walking around with the smallest pepper spray bottle to fend off a potential rapist, robber, or worse isn’t going to give you much of an edge.   There are many reasons to consider carrying a less lethal defensive measure.   You can blast someone with something like this without much of a worry about legal ramifications.   I’ve seen pepper spray used against 0bnoxious drunks which in my opinion were justified.

Why is the Kimber Guardian Angel a good choose over bottled pepper sprays?   I’m not sure if there is anything else as innovative as the Kimber Guardian, but if there is feel free to fill me in on it.   Bottled defensive measures have 2 flaws for the most part.   Number one is that you are going to have to figure out which end is the one to point it when in a hostile situation and the other is the shelf life of the product.   The Kimber is easy to point and you will know in micro seconds which end to point at  your attacker.   There is a safety mechanism that prevents accidental discharge which is something that does occur with the flip tabs that bottle sprays have.   The Kimber Guardian Angel will fit comfortable in most 5.11 Tactical, Woolrich Elite Series or Eotac front pockets.  The Kimber also has a shelf life of over 2yrs and if you are buying bottle mace every year, the Kimber costs you only $20 a year for 2yrs to help  you not get that $40 sticker shock.

If they shouldn’t carry a firearm yet….

Kimber Guardian AngelYou may seriously want to consider looking into some of the modern less-lethal options.   After spending many years on the firing line, in professional situations and in casual environments, I’ve seen plenty of people pushed into firing guns that they did not feel comfortable shooting and even a handful of  people that probable shouldn’t be on the firing line.  I believe most of our population can handle some level of firearm proficiency, but I strongly recommend against pushing carrying firearms for novice gun owners.     There are always variables we can argue about, but if I knew someone that was working late nights as a waitress or working at a bar, I would not pressure them to carry a gun if they did not have the training to use it.
The point of this discussion is a firearm should be a deterent, pulling  a gun on a robber doesn’t give you the right to shoot them, but it will stop a crime, if you’re dealing with a weak individual that couldn’t handle the stress of the situation, the gun they are carrying may end up being used against them.   One point I constantly push when discussiong CCW is that firearms, especially handguns, are not going to stop someone in their tracks.   They may bleed all over you and use the last round in your chamber on YOU if you aren’t prepared to deal with it.    There are many less-lethal weapons like Tasers and Kimber Guardian Angels that take very little training and may actually be more effective and have fewer legal liabilities if used.

Backup weapons

Kimber Guardian AngelAs we grow in our skills, we are more than likely to think about changing the firearms we carry.   I can’t tell you the number of times I hung out with a gun owner that looked like they could carry a full size 1911 in there front pocket, but choose to carry a J-frame instead.   Well, now that I’ve been carrying a firearm for close to 20yrs, I’ve really started to feel the weight especially when I was working overtime and carrying 10 and 12hrs days.   You really start to feel it at some point, the difference between 1lb and 3lbs of gun.    I guess there is almost a predictable learning curve when it comes to carrying guns.

I also know that many people choose to carry a secondary weapon.   Walking in and out of Police buildings,  I see guys that do investigations carrying 2 or 3 guns.   Sometimes certain environments are prone to very restrictive movements and sometimes having a gun in an ankle holster or shoulder holster along with your primary sidearm can mean the difference if there is a close quarters struggle.  That’s more common in the LEO world than in the civillian, but carrying a knife or mace is really my choose for CCW backup.  Take the Kimber Guardian Angel, this handy weapon lasts twice as long as bottle pepper spray, is easier to aim, and easy to put in a pocket.   The Elite Operator Tactical shorts in style 301 or style 302 can easily fit one of these in the front pockets that are outside of the hand pockets, this is a great thing to have when considering using non-lethal or less-lethal options when deadly force is not called for.
