Retiring your summer clothing for your Winter CCW

We got new windows installed on the house this year and for the first time ever, it didn’t feel so cold when I woke up yesterday as it was outside.   I guess all of that green energy improving we did really did make a difference, I guess I’ll know for sure when the heating bills start to come in.   It’s always this time of year that I have to remember to close every window in the house because its warm during the day and it night it gets down to almost freezing and then back through the cycle until Winter comes in full force.   Yesterday I retired my lightweight pants and concealement vests for my new Eotac Style 103 concealed carry vests.   I always have to force myself to wear clothing for awhile to get the real feel and use of each pocket before I really can comment on them.   It was a few years ago that I really started to hate some of my  non-Eotac pants because I always had a heck of a time trying to get my wallet out of them whenever I was driving through toll booths.   When I wore my Eotac pants, it was easy to access every pocket.

I would have to say that the Eotac Style 1o3 concealed carry vests are not heavy weight, but they are not lightweight.   They are also not lined which in my opinion doesn’t matter.  I like the idea of wearing base layer clothing, wearing a T-shirt or polo on top and then the a jacket or vest in the winter, instead of wearing a giant heavy winter coat.   I do not like the idea of basing my concealed carry method around a heavy coat, because there are too many situations in the winter where it can get really hot and keeping my jacket on in those situations can become impractical.   Base layers and vests seem to breath better than all of the winter coats I have.   Although The Eotac vests are being made in the military looking lizard pattern camo, the brown and O.D. Green vests are very outdoor friendly and won’t look too tactical.  I can easily carry 3 full sized Sig 228 magazines in the front pockets as well as a knife and flashlight and the weight does not yank at me.

Fall hunting and tactical vest

While the Field Vest has a military or tactical look to it, I find this kinda changes depending on the colors you are displaying.   The Lizard Pattern camo is an obvious military style look, but I find hte brown and OD green colors help moderate the look.   The vest looks very simliar to the Field Jacket except without the sleeves.   We are running a sale on them so look it over and pick one up before they are all gone.

Eotac has had their products on the market for barely a year and a half now.   I remember walking the Shot Show grounds in 2009 and wondering if yet another tactical clothing company was going to survive and here we are almost 18 months later and they are still cutting into the market.   The new A-tacs apparel should be out before SHOT Show in 2011 and we’re really itching to get a  hold of it.   One of the Eotac products that was new for 2010 is the Eotac Style 103 Field Vest.   The Field Vest work really well for hunting, too.

Military style jacket adapted to modern times

Eotac Field JacketI’ve seen a few military style jackets at Army Navy type stores, but most wearers are using them just for the look, but not because they really use it for any practical purpose.   There are some military style jackets that have good outdoor applications, but recently the very innovative and emerging tactical apparel company called Eotac, has developed something new.   The Eotac 502 Field Jackets is far superior to the Woolrich Elite Algerian jacket that has been on the market for a few years.   Both jackets are based on the Algerian style military jacket issued in the 1950’s.

The Eotac field Jackets has snap on pocket encosures and not velcro or as some like to call it, hook and loop.   I never thought this was much a thing to worry about, but several of our military and law enforcement customers have informed us that velcro wears out and is also very loud.   We didn’t thik about that, but the developers of the Eotac line obviously did.  The Field Jacket arm length is also properly designed.   All of us are build differently and not every shirt or jacket is going to work for everyone just because we have the same chest measurements, but we feel the Elite Operator Tactical Field Jacket is much better designed.  The 501 is also available in the Lizard Patter Camo that many of the original Algerian jackets came in.  The zippered sleeve pocket on the Field Jacket has a pen pocket and can hold something as large as a note pad or blackberry.  You will be able to carry just about any configuration of magazines, flashlights, knives, pepper spray ect. once you get use to all of the pockets, just be careful you don’t loose your gear in this jacket because there are so many places to put your stuff.
