The Wilderness belts hold up, end of story

I’m not going to go off and bash 5.11 products but they are a monster of a company and have so many products out there, that I can’t really say that they are the best, or that they are the worst, at what they do.    They sell watches, flashlights, and many EMS and military style shirts, pants and footwear that I think they are doing entirely too much and losing focus.  It’s a multi-million dollar company but there flashlights and watches don’t have a great reputation and I wouldn’t spend my money on those, the same goes for many of their belts.

The only product that we probable will never replace in our inventory are The Wilderness instructor belts.   They have been the best selling guns belt and The Wilderness belts that are a 5 stitch 1.5 inch are very common on firing lines.   We’ve tried several belts already that were similar but the paint chipped or they frayed sooner than they should.  You do have to be very careful about how you measure yourself for these belts, many people are spoiled with elastic waistband pants and don’t really know what there true sizing is.  You do need to measure  yourself and we have that on the product image display.

Elite Survival Systems quality tactical nylon gear

We had to pick a gun case and gun bag company that we knew made quality stuff and after seeing all of the Blackhawk gun bags, 5.11 range bags and the Bulldog gun cases.   There is a really big difference in the material and the quality of the Elite Survival Systems tactical nylon.   Gun bags are a hard thing to buy online and it’s up to the manufacturers to supply us with good images of what the bags and compartments are for and that is something we’re glad Elite Survival is doing.  Every person that needs a range bag, EMS bag or Patrol bag may have different needs but the features and designs have been a hit with our customers.

When it comes to stocking products that are in demand in this day and age, products line belly bands are hard to sell online because getting the right fight is a guessing game online.   The Core Defender gun holsters from Elite Survival Systems is something you will want to stop in a store and try out.   I consider myself to be above average height and ended up being a Medium for this bellyband.   I would have guess a large or an X-large at first, but that is the hard thing about shopping online.

Knee pads and tactical pants

There are some really nice knee pads from Alta that many of our customers have requested we sell.   We’ve been selling the Blackhawk knee pad and elbow pads for years, but after watching a really good review on the Alta knee pads on Youtube I was really impressed with the product line and there are some really good selling points over the Blackhawk knee pads. Not only are the knee pads a better option for material, the locking or latching knee pads are a better system than velcro.

Many of the tactical pants we sell already have knee pad options in them but they are a foam knee pad that goes inside the pants.  If you are looking for a lower profile look the knee pads are a nice option for range use on your tactical pants and will not be very bulky.  If you want to save your knees and not tear up your pants, you will want something over your knees.   All knee pads are going to cause you pants to ride up a little and varying types of material may ride up more than others.

We are a stocking Desantis holster dealer

Desantis holsters are probable the best known leather holsters for Law Enforcement in our neck of the woods and it was only a matter of time before we had to start stocking them.  Given all of the variations you have with firearms these days and the recent surge in small autos for pocket carrry, then through in all of the guns with lasers, and you’ve got a very complicated and ever changing situation for a holster maker.   As soons as somebody changes the sights or puts the sights on the gun, you better pay attention to the holsters you are using.

I have to admit that I have modified firearms without checking to see if there were holster issues, but I was lucky enough to not have the problem.  The Desantis holsters that I prefer to use for concealed carry are the Desantis Speed Scabbards.   I don’t like the idea of having to have retention of any sort other than a holster when I’m carrying under a shirt or a garment and the Speed Scabbard fits the bill.  I’ve been using the Don Hume Jit holster which is kind of the same thought but doesn’t seem to be as up against the body as the Scabbard.  Every firearm will be different and much of this is about preference.

CCW holsters can become complicated are they worth the hassle?

We recently had a few guys being deployed to Afghanistan that were looking to get Molle vests but they heard about an Elite Survial quick detach one that is coming out.  These guys all knew what it was like to get into situations where you have so much stuff strapped on you that it can be life threatening if  you get snagged on something or need to drop the load and move somewhere.   It’s also a comfort thing to some degree because if you can take it off quickly you aren’t wasting time.   The same goes for getting the stuff on which is why quick release gear sells faster.   Shoulder holsters can be very comfortable to wear especially for large autos but they are hard to get in and out of.

When it comes to waking up everyday and putting on a gun, nobody that CCWs for a long time is going to want to spend extra time with the hassles of clip things here and there and make adjustments.   The Galco Kingtuk holsters are a good idea and more comfortable but for every day carry they are little bit of a hassle to get on and off every day.   I will say that I use them for social environments and not for work because of the comfort levels but thats something for the buyer to decide.   Galco glock holsters  and Galco 1911 holsters are outstanding leather holsters.

CCW for the skinny guys

I’m talking about guys here because I don’t k now very many females that carry guns IWB or pocket carry.   I’m not sure why, but most females I am friends with carry in a purse or carry in a paddle or strong side holster.   There are many ways of carrying a gun on just a belt line.   You can carry with a belt loop, double belt loop, clip on or paddle holster.   I have a few backup holsters that are the Don Hume jit holsters that work very well for me because they keep the gun up and don’t take up very much room like a paddle holster.  I also can’t feel it push against my body at all when I am sitting down, unlike the IWB holsters.   I am still looking to pick up a crossbreed holster for a Sig 239 in 40 S&W because I’ve heard they are the most comfortable holsters.   I’ll find out and tell you my thoughts later.

I have never been a big fan of putting on a holster that need to through with a belt because I really don’t feel like having to do that every morning when I get up and go off to work.  That extra 20 minutes of wiggling things around and trying to line up the holster to the belt loops ect. is rather annoying and a clip on the belt gun holsters takes 2 seconds.   I do believe that I may have found a replacement for my paddle holsters which I tend to only carry when I am wearing a vest.   The Don Hume Jit holster may work for you if you have a large cut shirt, but us skinny guys don’t have the shape to hide very much unless it’s flat up against us.
