The Connecticut Shooting and what guns owners should be doing

gunvault gunsafesWhile the rest of our media went into a hi-jacking over the entire incident, there is something beside the “mental health”  discussion.   Even though gun owners are by far, in the “more responsible” category of society, there is a large number that should do some examining on how guns fall in the hands of bad people and how just locking up EVERY firearm in your home is something of an added insurance if you do have a break in.  Not letting people know what you own and where you hide is a good idea, but even if you have a bed side firearm or a gun hidden in a part of your house, the quick access and modern technology that Gunvault safes have to offer can prevent theft or prevent a family member you don’t trust from finding them and and acquiring it.

I personally don’t think the Biometric safes are anymore effective in restricting access to firearms than a keylock or push pad but if it fits in with your comfort and you want that type of access it’s better than just hiding a firearm.    I have already witnessed several generations of Gunvault gunsafes and the modern versions are far more reliable than previous generations so be careful about how long ago you may have read any negative reviews.  Biometric technology has improved greatly but that doesn’t apply to everyone.   The Minvault is a good starting point if  you are only locking up 1 or 2 handguns and the Multivault is the next step up for locking up more than 2 handguns, jewelry or any other important items.  The Nanovault and Microvault are big “car safes” sellers.

Years of feedback from customers about gunvault safes

We’ve been using them ourselves for almost 10yrs and there have been big changes to the product  line since we started using them.  The buttons have chang, the doors have changed and now they are making some of the best compact or small gun safes.   I guess its due to the bad economy  but we have sold more and more of the Gunvault microvault and nanovaults in recent  months to people using them in cars.  Not only are these good car safes for your firearm, but they are great for locking up and securing cash.  Every township or State is different regarding gun laws and security can vary from bank to bank.  Here in Pennsylvania some banks have metal detectors and you can’t carry a firearm in without setting off an alarm, you have to take it off of you when going in.

There are some criticisms about some of the biometric safes but they run more reliable than firearms.  Depending on which gunvault safes you are looking to purchase, there are battery operated ones and electrical ones.   I would suggest always using batteries and actually hiding the safe in a close and not out in the open.  Many people forget that gun safes that are not properly bolted down can easily just be picked up with a  hand truck or physically carried out of the house.   You can customize the way  you secure your gun safe in a car or a vehicle.  You may want to walk into a store that stocks them because matching up firearms to gun safes is something you want to think about ahead of time before you attach something to a gun and find out the safe doesn’t work for you anymore.

Trigger locks are worthless, gun safes are practical

I must have a pile of trigger locks in my  house that all came mandatory with various firearms that I have purchased.   There is absolutely no logic in having firearms with locks on them.  I have seen plenty of video demonstrations where firearms can still go off even if a trigger lock is installed.  Will a trigger lock prevent your firearm from being stolen?  Absolutely not.   Will it keep a loaded gun in a safe position so that a child finding it will not be able to shoot it?  Possible not.    I do  not think we need laws making it mandatory to lock up your firearms, but common sense says we should.  I know there are people in some situations where they may want quick access to a firearm, but modern gunvault gun safes are so fast that you can access a firearm in less than 2 seconds.   If you factor in the 2 second rule for CCW engagements, waking up, getting out of bed, and getting your gun from a gun safe in less than 10 seconds is very reasonable.

I am a strong believer in taking young children to a firing range even if they are not old enough to fire guns.  It may be a good idea to make sure they know that Mom and Dad have real guns and that the guns that they can play with are toy guns and let them see the difference.    Give your trigger locks to your kids for locking up their bikes, but do yourself a favor and research the various GunVault gun safes that are out now.   They are very impressive and can help keep your wife’s jewelry locked up and out of sight also.  The Gunvault gun safes that are being used for firearms can easily be bolt to hard to get to locations and be used for jewelry.
