Mounting Flashlights on shotgun

ATI Rifle StocksAfter a few years of actually taking real fighting classes, one of the most common things every instructor told us was, “get a white light” on your fighting weapon.    There are some handgun options where you can hold a flashlight while using a handgun and not have a fixed light on it which makes holster options very limited.   The Section8 Tactical ultimate retention device is a good tool to use, but this isn’t recommended for using with a shotgun or carbine.  I recenltly finished a training course where we used lasers for defensive purposes.   The best tactical for using lasers is knowing when to turn them off.   Yes, using a flashlight or laser is a giveaway, but spotlighting a threat and identifying it is paramount.

The 2nd most common suggestion for a home defense weapon is the shotgun.   Setup a target at 15yds and put 9- 9mm bullets in center mass, then pick up a shotgun with OO buck and pull the trigger.   The shotgun will will that argument every time.   Shotguns are almost always heavy and can be awkward to shoot in some situations, primarily the most commong pump action ones.   ATI Rifle Stocks have a pistol flashlight accessory that works well for putting white light on your shotgun.   You can easily take that $180 used Remington 870 that was being sold at your gun shop and convert it into a brutal close quarters fighting weapon.   I strongly recommend getting the stock length to the appropriate LOP.    I’ve seen plenty of lazy people think they will be find in a course until they get down and dirty and end up punching themselves in the nose with their strong hand when the gun recoils.

When the gunsafe gets tight

Advanced Technology StocksYou might want to think about collapseable stocks or folding stocks.   Guns can take up a lot of space depending on the optics and accessories you put on them.    I’ve seen plenty of my friends go from 12 or 18 rifle safes to full size gun safes just because of the optics they had on rifles.   One thing they never advertise when you are shopping for a gun safe is what kind of rifles it will hold.  Cramming your guns in will only cause damage and make getting guns in and out a headache.   Instead of worrying about having to find a new gun safe, you might want to think about spending a few hundred bucks on changing the stocks of your military style weapons to something that can fold or collapse.

The M4 Carbine rifle is not only a fast and effective CQB weapon, but a very easy to manuever carbine inside a vehicle.   You can easily gain 30% more room in a gun safe by mounting guns on the wall of the safe if you can fit them and you probable will.  I’ve seen friends mount short carbines on the inside door of a safe just because they could.  If properly mounted, an AK with an Advanced Technology Stock side folder will probable mount right on the door and you may even be able to two if you can mount it properly.

Upgrades and Doodads

Tactical GearIn the early 1990s there was a surplus of military style rifles coming into the Country.   There were goofy thumbhole stocks to avoid violating gun laws or cheap parts for kits.   Many of these rifles had pretty ugle stocks especially many of the rifles coming in from China or Egypt.   If you have one of those MAK90s or Maadis that works great, but looks like crap, you might want to upgrade your stock with a synthetic.   Many of these stocks are made in the US and can be considered US Parts to add to your legal alterations of your gun.

One of the best and easiest upgrades for any of your Chinese or Russian guns is a Fiberforce stock for your SKS.  The SKS is one of the better balanced guns that the Soviet Bloc states put out and the Fiberforce stock won’t offset that.  There is even a folding stock version that might help you if you want this as a truck gun or want to save some room in your safe.    For AR15 accessories, you can go nuts on AR15 upgrades, but think about what you really want on your gun before you just start buying, try handling your buddies guns before you just order pistol grips that you don’t really know much about or how they really feel.  Everyones hand is different and not all grips will work for you.  You can mess up the balance of your gun if you throw a heavy rail on it, especially if you don’t really need much tactical gear on your gun, why do it.

Stock Options…..

Advanced Technology Rifle Stocks

You can legally swap your thumbhole stock on your Mak90 with having to swap out your Chinese parts for US made parts by upgrading to the ATI Fiberforce stock Advanced Technology Black Glass Filled Nylon, Thumbhole AK-47/MAK-9o.   See this list for other ATI stocks such as Mini 14, Remington 870, Ruger 10/22 ect.

Advanced Technology Rifle Stocks are a great way to upgrade or improve your shody surplus military guns.   I’ve used the ATI Stocks on my Mak90 gun for years because the awful thumbhole stock it came with really ruined the image.   The absurd gun laws that were implemented in the early 1990s really dumbed down the looks of some of the surplus AKs that came into the Country.
