Have enough guns? How about more upper receivers for your AR15?

I don’t think you even need to worry changing calibers if you want something different than a 556 upper.   I’ve seen guys turn an M4 Carbine into a varmint rifle with a snap of two pins on a lower receiver.  The real thing to look out for is changes in calibers, namely to a 5.45×39 upper.   Many times I’ve seen guys skip the hammer spring change and end up with a light strike issue with Russian ammunition. We sold a ton of the Smith & Wesson 5.45×39 uppers a few years ago but for some reason they just don’t seem to be available.

The LWRC M6Ak was a one off novelty deal which died a quick death and no word if it’ll ever happen again.
Right  now the biggest selling upper receiver we have are the Adams 5.45×9 uppers.  I had a customer take apart his gun side by side to my AR15 complete upper receivers and compare the piston differences.  There is a difference and I still love my LWRC M6A2 but this gun was a next best thing and a best thing for a 5.45×39 upper.  You still can’t beat the cost of ammunition for these guns and the  caliber does have a better reputation than the 30 caliber AK.   I’ve known guys that took hits from the AK it has so much energy that it just zips through you and the Russians finally caught on that the 5.56 was a better combat caliber.

Lighweight vests for summer

Woolrich Elite VestsFor those of us living in the part of the Country where we get all 4 Seasons of weather, our concealment options usually will change atleast 2 times a year.    There are enormous numbers of ways you can conceal a weapon, but for those of us that carry full size weapons, the warmer the weather the fewer the options.   I carry a full size Beretta 92F while at work and one of my favorite ways of carrying this firearm is in a Fobus paddle holster.   For only about $20, I’ve gotten more than my moneys worth and have never broken the holster.   I’d have to say that if I was rolling around in the dirt I would defanitely prefer to have a Serpa holster.

The Woolrich Elite lightweight vest is made of a 100% cotton ripstop material that is identical the the Woorlich Elite lightweight pants and shorts.   These make carrying gear and concealment tolerable in hot weather.   These Woolrich Elite Vests are very popular with the IDPA crowd and being cut generously on the sides give great concealement, especially for those carrying full size autos.   We’ve had a few goofy complaints from customers that have stated that these vests are not good for concealing firearm if you put them in the pockets, and we would agree, these are basically made of the same type of material that your T-shirt is made out of and your gun will most likely print if you put it in the front pockets.   The concealed carry vest is meant to be a concealment garment and not a firearm retention device.   There are other concealment vests out t here that cost 3x’s as much money and can be used to hold firearms, but those are not lightweight.

Do you really need that on a vest?

Tactical VestsThat is the question an Operator may ask themselves while out in the field.   There are a lot of so called tactical vests on the market, and there are also several military surplus assault vests, too.  Sometimes some of these are good for something, but not always in the best condition or won’t go very well with your present line of tactical clothing.   GMG Global Military Gear makes a nice tactical vest that has the ability to retain a sidearm on the front pocket as well as hold several pistol magazines and carbine magazines.
Another extremely popular tactical vest design is one made out of a cotton canvas  design.  You may have seen something similar from 5.11, SigTac or Woolrich Elite.   The tactical apparel clothing company called Eotac has the Style 101 Tactical Vest.  The hook and loop carbine magazine designs are for magazines  with magpuls which gives it the edge over it’s competitors.  If you want to be creative with the use of the pockets, you’ll have plenty of versatility.  The pockets can be used for retaining flashlights, knives, cell phones, spare pistol magazines ect.  Their are also napolean pockets that can hold a small frame revolver or semi-auto.

Tactical Vest

Tactical VestTwo zippered dump pouches are positioned strategically above the bellowed cargo pockets. Two smaller zippered patch pockets are perfect for securing smaller gear or even a set of keys. Two open-top pockets with hook & loop closure (one with two pen slots) round out the front of the vest.

The front of the vest features two vertical “Napoleon” pockets that accommodate glasses, a wallet or ID, spare magazines, or even a small frame revolver or auto. Four lower bellowed cargo pockets are capable of carrying a variety of gear, including up to two spare 30-rd magazines per pocket. They each have an extended flap with hook & loop closure that can accommodate magazines with mag pulls.
The Operator Grade Tactical Vest is a purpose built piece of gear that everyone should add to their kit.
