Carrying gear in Spring weather

Tactical JacketsThis military style jacket is designed for modern flashlights and single or double stack mags.   When we need to do a lot of heavy lifting, I don’t like loading my belt up with a belt that looks like Batmans utility belt.    The pocket designs are very well made and the snap buttons on the pocket are what puts it in a A+ category for tactical gear.   When you hear the click of the buttons you don’t have to worry about watching your 15rd doubel stack 9mm mags flying out of the pockets while your doing physical work.   This jacket is defanitely not as heavy looking as it is in some of hte pictures and can easily become a Winter jacket by wearing a good base layer under it.

Recently I was doing work in a rural part of the State.   We were doing a lot of grunt work and we were deployed real early in the morning.   The tough thing about living in an area in the Country were you get all four season is trying to figure out what season you are in and what you should be wearing.   When you walk out the door and see ice hanging from trees, you know it’s cold out, but when it’s sunny and clear in the morning and a little chilly you need to wear something, but you know that by early afternoon it may go from 40F to 70F in just a few hours.    Luckily I had enough experience wearing my Eotac Style 502  Tactical Jacket in the Fall weather we had here that I knew this was just the type of thing to bring with me and I wouldn’t have to worry about being too cold or too hot.

Hunting shotguns and defensive shotguns

Advanced Technology StocksMost of us probable got into the shooting world via a shotgun or 22lr rifle.    Those seem to be some of the best instroductory firearms.    You can learn the basics about shooting from a 22lr bolt action rifle and the shotgun is the most versatile firearm out there.    Something like a Remingto 870 shotgun is normally available with an 18-28 barrel on it and can be found in 12 or 20 gauge.   The shotgun can be used for pheasant hunting all the way up to deer just by altering the type of shot or using a slug.  Depending on the sights you have on the gun, you may want to consider rifle sights if you plan on using slugs very often.
The shotgun is handsdown the most effective close range weapon.   I’ve demonstrated the use of Ar15s and handguns against targets under 50yds and then shown students a Remington 870 using buckshot and there is always a clear winner when it comes to hit ration and damage done.   A shotgun may be a powerful tool and possible too much for some users, but you can easily modify an inexpesive gun show find that costs less than $200 to a practical defensive shotgun.  Advanced Technology Stocks have a few updgrades and add ons that will give you comfort when it comes to choosing a home defense weapon.
