Colt 1991A1 and Chip McCormick magazines range day

I have worn out more 1911  magazines than any other gun magazine and I guess it’s no surprise that I put a lot of 45acp down range.   My 45acp magazines get put to use and I have learned from experience to rotate through all of my 1911 magazines and replace the springs about the same time I replace my recoil springs.  All of this can depend on how many magazines you use for the most part.    I would always recommend that you have atleast 3 gun magazines for every handgun you own because not only does this spread out the gun magazine wear, it’s about what  you will most likely need if you are doing any type of competition shooting.

I have a Colt 1991A1 that has seen more action than any other sidearm and I refuse to do any major changes to it as long as the gun runs.  The gun fits my hand very well and I have had good luck with the proven Chip McCormick magazines that I have used for IDPA competition and for CCW.   I love my 1911s for competition shooting but I’m still searching for a 45acp gun that I can carry all the time.  Some of the shorter 1911 guns seem to be to much too much maintenance and I really don’t like the idea of carrying a firearm where I have to do a countdown to when it it needs to have its guts cleaned out.

Hunting rifles, handguns and assault rifle cases and that’s the easy part

There are so many variations and configurations of just something like an M4 Carbine that you would be amazed at how hard it can be to put a gun in a case once you add on a different optic or flashlight.  I have modified some of my M4 Carbines 2-3 times and always ended up finding out the gun wouldn’t fit right when I came about 4 inches away from zipping up the gun cases I used.  I have several M4 Carbines and it’s always nice to just close up the adjustable stock, but different barrel lengths can mean needing a different gun case.

Measure your overall length for long guns before you buy a gun case online.  People tend to forget about over all length when they order Allen gun cases from us and sometimes have to exchange the sizes.  Gun cases are a royal pain in the butt to ship and we often have to add on shipping charges because once you get to certain size gun case you really can’t fold the case over again or risk damaging the formation of the material.  The Allen assault rifle cases are in a good price range and if that’s all you need in a gun case, their products are well made in that price range.

Soft gun cases with versatility and for a decent price

Everytime I walk out of a gun shop with a new long gun I try to make sure that I have  soft gun case available if I have to take several guns to and from the range.  There have been times I’ve packed things wrong and a few times ended up putting dents in areas that I shouldn’t have.  Not everyone can afford to spend $100 on a customized gun case although some firearms really demand this.  If you want to pack up your pistols and don’t want to have to put too much thought into which size gun bag to get.  Just spend $8 on a bulldog gun case and you’re all done.

Not every trip to the ranges demands and SKB gun case with multiple pouches or accessories.  When I pack up my handguns or better yet, when I’m only bringing one or two handguns these Bulldog gun cases like the pistol rug, hardly burn a hole in your pocket and give  you enough protection for reasonable bouncing around. You might even be able to pick up the bulldog cell phone case for you.  Bulldog also  has a molded pistol case which can give you even more protection.

Recon sleeping bags are they any good?

We get asked so many questions about certain products that at some point we’re going to have to just put up a FAQ’s on the website but at this time I really don’t have the time to do it.  People ask us if the products we sell are any good and that’s really an answer you’ll have to get on  your own.  From past experiences if we have a problem with a product line we usually dump it which is one reason we are so particular about what type of clothing we sell. Every product line has issues from time to time, but if we reach a boiling point, we dump the product line.

Many products out there are used for things that they are not  intended to be  used for and there a  great many ways to look up reviews and get feedback on them.  Right now one of our biggest selling product lines are the Elite Survival Systems recon sleeping bags which are flying out the door.  There really isn’t much out there to argue about these because the ratings on them are pretty accurate for any0ne with realistic expectations.  The Elite Survival Systems product line has started to expand out to real survival systems with emergency food and emergency bags.

Elite Survival M4 Roller customer responses

We were probable one of the first stocking dealers for the Elite M4 Roller from Elite Survival Systems and although we thought it was a great idea, we know how hard it is to sell certain items online.  Like so many things that are sold online, it’s hard to tell what it really is until you feel it in your hands and hold it.   There are lots of times people order something and don’t pay attention to the dimensions and end up with something much larger or smaller than what they wanted.  Sometimes even the images are not precise.

We we listed the Elite M4 Roller we knew what we were getting into and we  have never sold a bag as large as this but let’s be  honest, how many trunk bags are designed to be used like this and are so well thought out.  The Elite Survival Systems gun cases are our favorite nylon gun bags because we really cover the grounds with all of the variations.  We tend to deal with higher end products like LWRC, Noveske and the like for gun parts and accessories and we thought it would be fitting to avoid the cheapest and least expensive shooting bags.  The M4 roller fills a niche that local Paramedic and Law Enforcement wanted and when they walked in the door at our shop, they got to hold one in their hands and roll it out the door.

Original Swat at the Atlantic City Police and Security Expo

We will once again be attending the Atlantic City Police and Security Expo for Original Swat Footwear.  We have been very happy to attend this shows because as a vendor, it’s a great way to learn about the product and understand what people are looking for.   When we first started carrying the Original Swat footwear, it wasn’t because we knew they were the best it was because we need to carry a footwear line to diversify our product line and the first thing that jumped out at us is the boots were not all that expensive.  From a dealer standpoint we didn’t want to start off with footwear that cost us $250 a boot that sold for $300 and then find out nobody wanted it.

Well, we made a great decision and we have had very few complaints for the footwear and out of the hundreds we sold only 3 have come back with issues.  We did notice that Original Swat Boots gave us a broad selection of footwear that covered everything from the new Athletic Chase Low footwear and the Classic 9″ boots that can be had in a lace up or the 1152 side zip boots.  There are composite toe and composite shank boots and there is no need for steel toe anymore.  The Waterproof tactical boots have been a big win for our customers that work in the EMS.

If you spent $2000 on your AR15 are you willing to spend $120 on a gun case?

I know that many people seem to think that you need an SKB case for your gun if it costs $2000 but that’s not really being practical or realistic.  I have had several of the Elite Survival System gun cases for my higher end firearms and they have served me well.  Protecting firearms is important but the truth of the matter is that hard cases are really meant for people shipping Internationally or being sent on an Airplane.  We’ve done some test package shipments and were shocked at how beat around UPS and Fedex shipping actually is so I get it if you have something of value, but for car transport a case with foam protection is going to get the job done.

I have a gun case for all of my high end LWRC AR15 rifles and my tricked out LWRC REPR and my beloved FNFAL.  It’s not all about protecting the gun from getting knocked around by my Elite Survival Ultimate Sniper Drag Bag is what I keep my Winchester Model 70 in because it keeps my Zeiss optics save and I can keep all of my long range technical info and range gear in it.  It is a pick up and go bag although I do lock up my gun when it is not being used.   The Covert Operations Discreet rifle case can be for an AR15 or an AK as well as an MP5 or 9mm variant with several options for pouches replacements.

Gunvault gun safes what size do you want?

I have several gun safes in my home and not all of them are for firearms.  I think it’s a responsible thing to do to put important documents in a safe like Birth Certificates, Marriage records and other things.  But how big of a safe do you need?  What if your wife wants to put jewelry in it?  What about firearms?   What size gun are we talking about and do you want a flashlight or something else?  A large safe in the basement is the way to go for locking up firearms but for use every day you really want something smaller like a gunvault safe.

You might want to stop in a stocking store though because not all gunvault safes are going to get the job done.  Some of the larger safes like the Deluxe model are pretty big even for a closet and gunvault safes also come in a much smaller version like the Gunvault Nanovault and the Gunvault minivault are for cars, travel or hidden locations.  Some safes also are designed with the biometric technology and are very useful for those that want quick access without having to push buttons or use keys.

Get me a gun case that is ready to go

When many of us get an AR15 we usually buy it by itself, shoot it for awhile and then add on accessories.  Most people I talk to about this issue when I’m explaining the reasons why we stock the Elite Survival Systems gun bags are usually usually nodding their heads.   The reason they are looking at these bags is because they can’t use the gun bags from Uncle Mikes or Bulldog.   I have several M4 Carbines that I had to disassemble to get to the range because the assault rifle gun cases I had wouldn’t fit them because of the flashlights and optics.   It royally sucks when  you get a new gun add stuff to it and find out you need to spend money on another gun bag, but if you do, check out the Elite Survival Systems bags.

The gun cases we have in stock now are the Covert Carry Discreet cases.  Everybody and their dog starts out with the Assault Rifle cases and I have to admit there are some differences between them but the Elite Survival Systems gun cases are in the “good stuff” category.  I have been clearing out some of my older gun socks and gun bags and giving them away to try and keep my higher end guns in better order. The Covert Carry gun cases come in various sizes but they also are customized to carry either AK magazines, 9mm/40 Magazines, and AR15 magazines.   Having velcro straps to tie down your rifles optics, a protective closed cell foam padding between magazines and the firearm and also a compartment to attach the magazine pouch and any other pouches.

The Importance of contrast for combat optics

Many believe that illuminated reticles means engaging targets in low light, not always but sometimes.   In recent years there have been some pretty exotic optics and many  of them are pricey.   You’ll be lucky if you can find a combat worth optics for less than $500 although there is a good used market.    I have started out with many of the Eotech gun sights and have been very happy with them.   The only down side to them is the fact that they need to be turned on.  I know several people that have used them  in Iraq and were quite happy with them but I personally do not like the idea of a long deployment and the notion that my if I run out of batteries my optic is basically useless.

Aimpoint makes some good stuff although I really don’t have much use for red dots.   Red Dot optics can obscure a target and I have been more and more a fan of the new and smaller Trijicon ACOGS like the TA26SR.   The green reticle ACOGS are out selling the red  optics by about 4/1 and its becoming more and more common to see green lasers and optics.  The TA26 in my opinion pretty much voids the use of a red dot and has a targeting circle that is on par with the Eotech gun sight.   The clarity is superb and there is no haze that some red dots have.
